Moral Panic- the way mass media create folk devils. covid-19: conspiracy theorists blame the government. TikTok- International security concern.  Fake news- untrue news spread virally using social media.

Task 1: The Long Tail Theory

Chris Anderson- 2004 Can be used to describe the ways in which new technologies have enabled audiences to have choice over the amount of media they can access.  Not just mass/popular but niche.  Was initially related to music streaming but can now be related to video on demand.  Where wikinomics.  Now have access to everything (infinite). the same amount of money can be made by smaller, niche artists as a few more popular artists (economy).

  1(a) Identify THREE possible problems media producers might face when using Twitter to market a digital media product.  Twitter is a microblogging sight. This means it has limited characters. opinionated traffic. need to build up followers. Twitter is popular. 1. They are limited to the amount of information they are able to include.  2. Since twitter is flooded with peoples opinions, people might miss the post about the product. 3. if the media producer doesn't already have a lot of followers it might make it hard for people to see the posts. (b) Explain ONE way that social media has contributed to a change in the way music is distributed. Artists are able to make posts on social media about their music so more people can know about it They are also able to release their music digitally through things such as Spotify and deeper which means people are more likely to listen rather than if they had to buy a CD (physical copy).
